Cave Adventure

The Elijio Panti National Park is a relatively new National Park just south of the Maya Village of San Antonio. From San Ignacio, it will take us about 1.5 hours to get to the cave aboard a Polaris ranger (ATV). After roving through old logging roads, rolling hills and towering jungle, we arrive at Offering Cave. We spend about 3 hours in the depths of Xibalba, the Maya underworld. Once used by the ancient Maya to perform rituals, vast evidence was left behind as offerings of pottery vessels, plates and ollas of different sizes are scattered along the pathway. Prepare to be amazed by the natural beauty of the formations and the number of vessels and their sizes found within. Several formations were modified and walls were also placed to hide or protect their offerings. After conquering Xibalba we have the option of making a stop at the mariposa water fall before heading back home.
